How to Get People to Click on Your Google Display Ads

Google AdWords display ads appear on over two million websites and in over 650,000 apps, which means there is plenty of competition (and opportunity) to have your ad clicked. To distinguish yourself from other brands, here are a few tips on how to create better performing image-based display ads that convert for your next Google Adwords campaign. Let’s get started!

1. Create a Clear Call-to-Action

Sometimes with image-based ads, customers may not know exactly which part of an ad is clickable. And in many cases, depending on what kind of site your ad appears, it might blend into the site content without even the user realizing it. You want to make your ad as clear as possible. Buttons like ‘Shop now,’ ‘Buy Now’ or ‘Learn More’ will let clearly explain the next step if they click on your ad.

2. Lead to a Similar Looking Landing Page

The page you are linking to from the ad is called the landing page. You want the ad text to match the content your audience sees on site. If an ad says ‘Learn More,’ don’t direct them to a checkout page. Provide content that explains your brand and product or service.

3. Use a Powerful Tool to Make Your Ads

Creating good looking ads can be a hassle. If you can use Photoshop, great! But not everyone has the time to figure out its steep learning curve. That’s why powerful tools like web-based Canva and the iPhone app LetterGlow, are great resources. These platforms give you text tools, image manipulation, and export options that allow quick transfer to your computer.

4. Create Relevant Content

There are a lot of ads out there, both good and bad, so you have to make yours stand out. You can do that with stellar photography. Unfortunately, that can be pricey and time-consuming. That’s why so many brands turn to stock photos. Stock image sites have definitely upped their game. Here are a few worth checking out: Pexels, Unsplash, Adobe Stock, Stocksy, and Twenty20. Stocksy even has a complimentary service where they look for specific images for you.

That all said, with a little bit of work, you can make your ads jump off the screen! Get converting!
