Your 2016 Marketing New Year’s Resolutions

By January 14, 2016Strategy

With the start of the New Year, I have decided to compile of list of criterion that I believe must be executed properly if you wish to run a successful marketing campaign in 2016.

Commit

Recently Hawke Media has had the opportunity to measure marketing on an instantaneous basis.  This is both a blessing and a curse.  On one hand, as mentioned below, it is incredibly important to measure your ROI and know you are actually marketing properly.  On the other hand, marketing doesn’t work instantly.  It requires time and a lot of testing. Also, everything has a purchase cycle, so be patient and give it time.

Test

Test everything and test often.  Try things, measure them and see what types of marketing, messaging and targeting deliver the best results. The GREAT thing about digital marketing is that it is so easy to test multiple iterations of a concept.  Take advantage of it and test at both the micro and the macro level.

Be Creative

Don’t get stuck in the mundane of basic messaging.  Live on the edge, think of the time of mad men, try things that are out there and give them a reasonable shot to succeed for you. Throughout my career I have always found that the best campaigns are generally the most creative. Try something new and cut through the clutter of messaging that consumers see on a daily basis.

Execute

Don’t let yourself get stuck in analysis paralysis.  Trying something new is very easy these days and if you don’t execute, your competitors will. Anybody can be working on a number of deliverables.  However, it is those who are able to GET THINGS DONE that will succeed. Remember there is a difference between failure with a lowercase f and Failure with an uppercase F.  Don’t be afraid of failing. But when something does not go as planned take a step back and reevaluate your plans. I guarantee you can learn more from your failures than from your successes.

Measure ROI

Not impressions, not clicks, how much money did you make marketing?  Be careful how you discern this ROI. However, it is important to understand if what you are doing is actually making you a return. At its core, the goal of a business is to make money. Please do not forget that 🙂
